Althorne recreation ground is in Burnham Road near to the junction with Buttons Hill.

Vehicular entry is from Summerhill with a car park area suitable for up to 30 cars.

The car park has gates which are sometimes locked overnight.

There is a small pavilion which is used as a store and changing area.

There is a hard surface tennis court.

Play equipment is suitable for children with an area for pre school children.

Dog owners are encourages to use a signed dog walk.

The area is used for junior and senior football matches which can restrict the use of the main grassed area.

Bass Wood

Bass Wood is a private wooded area of 10 hectares in Station Road, Althorne, visible from Fambridge Road near to Crouch Valley Meadow burial ground.

The owner allows public access for walking.

There is a small car park, seating and signed footpaths.
